The Player Speaks: Via RaiderPower’s Zach Tanner, Antoine Cox-Wesley said that he committed right on the spot after the offer was extended
Cox-Wesley cited academic reasons and the relationship with coach Jinks as to why he committed on the spot.
“I’m in love, I love the school a lot, computer engineering is what I want to study, Coach Jinks and I have that bond, I want to stay connected with him and it feels like family there.”
There’s more there, so go check it out.
Scouting Report: We’re going to be light on content here because Cox-Wesley has his Hudl video set to private. The one bit of video we have was one of the top 10 plays last year in a playoff game against Katy:
It is a pretty spectacular grab, but that’s the extent of the video, which sorta stinks. So based on that catch, this is a can’t miss prospect. Seriously though, we can gather some additional information, from some other items that may give us an indication as to the type of athlete he is. Up first is the idea that Cox-Wesley is going to state in the long jump:

Cox-Wesley finished 2nd in Region IV-6A meet with a jump of 22 2-3/4. Oh, and that other guy in the photo is Texas Tech signee, Terrance Steele, and I’d guess that he’s going to state for throwing something heaver for a long distance and/or just throwing something for a long distance.
Cox-Wesley’s football stats are most likely what’s holding him back in terms of getting additional offers. Last year, Cox-Wesley only had 29 catches for 529 yards and 5 touchdowns That’s not exactly terrific, but I think the idea here is that he’s got great potential and he plays on a team that runs the ball with great vengeance and furious anger. Think of this as being like the high school version of Calvin Johnson at Georgia Tech. Maybe it was that last game against Katy where he had 7 catches for 148 yards and a touchdown that helped put Cox-Wesley on the map.
So yeah, this one is really based off of the relationship with running back coach Mike Jinks, the former coach at Steele, and obviously still has connections there, plus there are glimpses of big-play potential and you have to think that you’ve got a really nice athlete with the fact that he’s going to state in the long jump.
Antoine, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
