Gridiron on the Plains: Weekend Recruiting Updates; Ranking the Quarterbacks in Texas

In this morning’s news, we get caught up on a pretty big unofficial recruiting weekend, ranking the best quarterback situations in the state of Texas and so much more.

Recruiting Weekend. Our favorite recruiting guru, Wreck’Em 24/7’s Michale LaBarre has his possible Red Raiders, including a bit of an exchange with Elbre Gaiter (5-8/168), a receiver/defensive back from Westminster Christian School in Miami, who is expected to visit Texas Tech, Duke and North Carolina this summer. Mike has all of your additional recruiting information, so check it out.

Video Feedback from Unofficials. Wreck’Em 24/7’s Daniel Paulling has interviews of two unofficial visitors, DE Houston Miller and OL/DL Grant Hermanns from this weekend. Paulling also talked to a 2017 QB offer Jaylen Gipson (6-2/190), who’s from Mexia.

Best QB’s in Texas. The DMN’s college bloggers are getting together to rank the top position groups in the state and up first are the quarterbacks (these will come out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday). So, this isn’t the Big 12, but rather the state of Texas, with TCU coming out first, then TAMU, Baylor and Texas Tech. If you look at the voting, there was a one point difference between Texas Tech and Baylor. Here’s a quick little thing to consider:

Player A: 185 attempts, completes 56.8% of passes for 1,547 yards, 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions for a QB rating of 151.22. Answer.

Player B: 192 attempts, completes 61.5% of passes for 1,322 yards, 16 touchdowns and 7 interceptions for a QB rating of 139.50. Answer.

One of those QB’s is on a team that received four second place votes, while the other received zero second place votes, but tell me again which quarterback you’d rather have or maybe if they’re comparable?

Miscellaneous. Totally Texas Tech’s TTURed has some new campus photos, so make sure and check them out, really great photos of Will Rogers & Soapsuds . . . a former Texas Tech footballer Baron Batch is selling his home in Pittsburgh . . . a former Illinois football player went on a Twitter rant yesterday afternoon, blasting his head coaches and bringing up the situation regarding the lack of a union for NCAA players . . .
