In this Morning’s Stake: Texas Tech offers another quarterback, but wants him to play linebacker and we’re looking for athletes that excelled in multiple sports in high school. Plus, softball travels to Iowa State to end the season and track and field has a banner day.

Two-Sport Athletes. Want a project for the day other than earning a paycheck? Cool. I’m working on a project and this may take some time to pull together everything, but I’m trying to find current players that played and excelled at multiple sports in high school. So, we know that Patrick Mahomes was really a three-sport star in high school, playing basketball, football and baseball. I think I read where Mahomes averaged 17 points a game as a senior in basketball and so it’s clear that he’s just a natural athlete. I’m looking for those sorts of players, not just guys that sat on the bench, but guys that actually played pretty well and made an impact in a different sport. Another guy would be Nigel Bethel, who ran track and ran it well, in Florida. Links would be terrific and MaxPreps has a huge database.
Softball Takes on Iowa State. The softball team travels to Iowa State for the weekend to close out conference play. Today’s game begins at 4:00 pm and the games on Saturday and Sunday start at noon.
Records Broken at Red Raider Open. Pretty confincing wins for the track and field teams as the men’s and women’s team won 15 events and almost 30 personal bests for individual athletes. It’s pretty amazing to think that Nigel Bethel won his heat in the 100m and ran in the finals and finished with a time of 10.41 which was only good for 8th overall.
Texas Tech Offers Quarterback . . . but at Linebacker. Scout’s Ahmard Vital writes about how Texas Tech has offered North Shore quarterback 2016 Miciah Long (6-2/220), but Texas Tech is looking at the Houston area quarterback at linebacker. Long is a 3-star player and he has offers from Missouri, Ohio State and UCLA as well and Texas Tech wants Long at that hybrid linebacker position and cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis is recruiting Long:
“I would have to say that Texas Tech and Kansas are recruiting me the hardest. I talked to the coaches three-to-four times a week,” Long said. “It’s (assistant) coach (Kevin) Curtis who is recruiting me. He’s a pretty straight-forward guy and when I have questions, he gives me answers.”
Long’s film is pretty fun to watch, he’s got a huge arm and he’s a heck of a runner, just likes to run over opponents:
I’ve got a baseball thread going up later today, probably around noon, but maybe earlier. You never know.
