The Morning Stake: Men’s and Women’s Golf Updates; Baseball Takes on Grand Canyon

We get you all caught up this morning as the men’s golf team starts day 2 at the Big 12 Championship and the women play in the NCAA Regional in San Antonio. Plus, the baseball team takes on Grand Canyon, not the geographical feature, but the baseball team.

Men’s Golf at Big 12 Championship. The men are currently sitting in 3rd place at 25 over (I think I’m reading this correctly). You can click on the link above for a live-leaderboard and this link has the story from yesterday from the official site and as noted, Texas Tech is sitting 18 strokes behind Texas and just 2 strokes behind Iowa State. If Texas is really that good, then it really was a huge deal when Texas Tech upset them a few weeks ago. Here’s the highlights.

Women’s Golf Headed to San Antonio. The women’s golf team learned their post-season fate yesterday afternoon as they will be headed to the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. They’ll compete with UCLA, Washington, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arizona State, Baylor, Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, Texas, Houston, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Boston and Alabama State and of those teams, the top six will advance to the NCAA Championship.

Men and Women’s Track and Field Rise in Rankings. The men and women both rose in the USTFCCCA rankings, the men to #6 and the women to #12.

Baseball Ranked #21 and Begin Series Against Grand Canyon. After being ranked inside the 20’s, the baseball team fell to #21 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association top 30 poll. Need to get some bats going against Texas.

And I won’t have a separate post for the game, but Texas Tech hosts Canyon for a two-game series tonight at 6:30 pm and tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm. Ty Damron gets the start and the ever elusive TBD starts tomorrow.

Football links and posts coming later this morning.
