Thompson to be Named Head Coach at Lubbock High. Congrats to former Lady Raider Alicia Thompson who will be named the head coach at Lubbock High!

Tubby Smith Visits Shawntrez Davis. According to Wreck’Em 24/7’s Daniel Paulling Tubby Smith went to go visit 2015 PF Shawntrez Davis and Texas Tech is in the running with Boston College, Texas Tech and SMU. Davis is the #35 power foward in the nation and this would qualify as a pretty big deal. Pretty big deal.

Men’s Tennis to Take on #10 Texas. The men’s tennis team will start the Big 12 Championship and will take on #10 Texas in the first round. Go get ’em.

Carpenter Named to Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List. Congrats to Quinn Carpenter, who was named to the the John Olerud TWo-Way Player of the Year Watch List:

Carpenter is one of the team’s leading hitters batting .315 (23-for-73) with 15 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, three home runs, 18 RBI and a .548 slugging percentage.

Carpenter is batting .372 with runners on base and is among team leaders with eight two-out RBI.

He is also among team leaders in starts and appearances with seven outings – four starts, three in the midweek – with 15.1 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts.

Big 12 Quarterback Races. Fox Sports’ David Ubben takes a look at the quarterback situation of every Big 12 school with his thoughts on Texas Tech being what we generally think, which is that it is Patrick Mahomes most likely, with Davis Webb pushing him. One other quarterback note that I saw was that Kenny Hill did make it official and transfer to TCU this week. The knock on Hill is that he’s got some real issues that he has to deal with and I wonder how that will play in the room with some of the other quarterbacks there.

Tadlock Still Working. LAJ’s Nicholas Talbot writes about how Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock started Hunter Hargrove at catcher and he played pretty well, not allowing any passed balls or any other issues.

“We are just trying to get better. We are looking for ways to do that every day. And he is a guy that if you can get his bat in there, you have a chance to get your lineup better,” Tadlock said. “That is 11 percent of your lineup and you want the best hitter in there you can get.”
