The Morning Stake: Caldwell Named Athlete of the Week; Burleson Candidate for Senior Class Award

In this Morning’s Stake:  Shocking news about bloggers; new campus photos; Bryant Burleson is named a candidate for the Senior Class Award; and Chris Caldwell was named the Big 12 track and field athlete of the week.

It’s Only 3.7% You Guys. In a bit of surprising news, according to the Washington Post, only 3.7% of bloggers actually live in their parents’ basements.

Campus Photos. Friend of the blog (yes, even this new one) Totally Texas Tech has some new campus photos, especially as the tulips are in full bloom. Some great photos.

Not the Worst. Per ESPN’s Brandon Chatmon Texas Tech had the 7th worst pass defense in the Big 12 (or 7th best) in terms of yards per pass:

Summary: The Red Raiders ranked near the bottom of the Big 12 in several categories but their touchdown-to-interception percentage stands out above the crowd. Tech gave up 3.88 touchdowns per interception during this span, nearly a full touchdown worst than any other team in the Big 12. Nigel Bethel, Tevin Madison and Justis Nelson are among the young defensive backs on the roster with the talent to help turn this Red Raider trend around.

Burleson Named Senior Class Candidate. Congrats to baseballer Bryant Burleson for being named a candidate for the Senior Class Award:

Burleson has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in five consecutive semesters and has also collected back-to-back Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Burleson has been active in the community in several projects with the Texas Tech baseball program and the Red Raider athletics department. He has helped with the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure as well as a number of other community events. Burleson is a four-year starter on the Red Raider baseball team. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2014 while leading the conference in doubles. As a senior, he leads all active Big 12 baseball players in several statistical categories and entered his senior season with more than 600 at-bats. Entering the 2015 season, he ranked eighth all-time in school history in doubles (45).

Caldwell Runs Really Fast & Texas Relays This Weekend. T&F’s Chris Caldwell was named the Big 12 Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week after winning the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.60 and 100 meter dash with a time of 10.51. The 13.60 leads the nation. Also, the track teams will head to Austin this weekend to compete in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
