The Lady Raiders (15-14, 5-12 Big12) had another close game where the attempts at the basket were just not falling through the hoop. Tech played the Oklahoma State Cowgirls for the final home game (Senior Game) on Saturday. The final score was Tech 44 and OSU 47. The shots finally dropped in the last few minutes but a last second 3-pt shot came up short and the final buzzer sounded. The last shot would have been one for the ages and would have been a great college career ending for Kelsi Baker. With four seconds left on the clock, the OSU Junior Guard #22 Brittney Martin missed her second free-throw and the rebound landed in Baker’s hands. She headed down court and heaved it at the hoop as the buzzer sounded but the ball went to the right. The “what if’s” for this season have been numerous. The Lady Raiders had five Big12 conference losses in which the final score was 4 or less points. I know that is what basketball is all about, the crazy last second chances that decide a win or loss and this season the luck or the timing just was not on the Lady Raiders side. On a positive note, Amber Battle reached the 1,000 point mark and currently has 1,004 points for her career.

Tonight the Lady Raiders head down to Waco, TX to play the #3 Baylor Bears (26-3, 15-2) at the Ferrell Center at 7pm CST. The Lady Raiders played the Bears tough a couple weeks ago in Lubbock with the final score being a seven point difference (60-67). Since then the Bears have struggled in their play and have lost their last two games to OU (68-64) and Iowa State (76-71). This will be the 81st meeting between these teams with Texas Tech holding the lead in the series 47-33. The Lady Raiders need to reach down deep and play a very physical and accurate game. The Bears will be out for a win to counter their recent games and it is their senior game so emotions will be high. The Lady Raiders need to play a perfect game and play as smart and cohesively as they can. I know they have it in them. I am hopeful that there is not any cold spells in shots and that the Lady Raiders spoil the Bears Senior Game.

The Baylor Bears are currently 1st in the Big12 in Scoring Offense (81.9 ppg) and FG% (48%). They are even with Tech in FT% at 67%. Baylor is 2nd in the Big12 in Blocked shots averaging 5.8/game. The Bears are in 1st place in Assists averaging over 21/game. Baylor is a strong rebounding team averaging 15.96 Offensive rebounds and 30.32 Defensive rebounds per game. The one small area where the Bears struggle is in 3-pt shots only averaging 3.28/game. The Bears are led by Sophomore Forward #13 Nina Davis who makes at least 20.6 ppg, 8.7 rpg. Davis is backed up by Sophomore Guard #20 Imani Wright who averages 10 ppg, and 3 rpg and is 74.3% accurate at the free-throw line. Sophomore Guard #12 Alexis Prince adds an average of 8.1 ppg and 4.1 rpg. Junior Guard #2 Niya Johnson averages 7.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 9.2 apg and is the Bears strongest free-thrower at 78.7% FT%. Senior Point Guard #22 Sune Agbuke averages 6 ppg and 5.5 rpg.

The Starters for today’s game are: Sophomore Guard #2 Ivonne CookTaylor is averaging 8.7 ppg and 4.4 rpg. Junior Guard #11 Rayven Brooks had 7.9 points and 3.4 rebounds and is currently ranked 12th and 11th respectively in the Big12 standings for Blocked Shots and Steals with 25 blocks and 45 Steals this season. Senior Forward #41 Kelsi Baker averages 8.8 ppg and 5.3 rebounds and is ranked 13th in the Big12 standing in Offensive Rebounds (2.27/game) and 8th in FT% at 74.1% (80-108). Junior Forward #35 Jamie Roe averages 3.6 ppg and 3.4 rebounds.   Senior Guard #12 Amber Battle who averages 15.5 ppg and 5.7 rebounds and is 75.6% accurate from the free-throw line. Battle is currently 4th in the Big 12 in scoring, 5th in FT percentage and in Defensive Rebounds (4.67 rpg).
