Texas Tech came out today and knocked off the Oklahoma State Cowboys. What a great game, WRECK ‘EM TECH!!!
Player of the Game | Toddrick Gotcher did terrific in the game. He had 17 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. When Gotcher has the hot hand the Red Raiders need to keep feeding him, he is going to need to be our senior leader next season and he is starting to step up into that role right now.
Stat of the Game | Downtown Shooting at 10-16 (62.5%). It had been a weakness all season, but today Texas Tech came up big making their outside shots.
How the Game was Won | Shots didn’t seem to be falling for the first 15 minutes of the game, but then Texas Tech found their rhythm and started dropping in three-point shots. Defensively the Red Raiders fought hard to be pesky and get hands in the faces of the Cowboys. Ball movement and passing seemed to open up opportunities, but it was the outside shooting that really won the game. Also, the Red Raiders were getting into the paint and picking up fouls. Plain and simple, the Red Raiders wanted to win this game more than the other guys.
Turning Point | The game started off as a struggle offensively for both teams as the score was tied at 10 apiece with 5 minutes left to go in the 1st half. The turning point of the game was when Texas Tech went on a run to end the half hitting 7 of 8 shots after going just 3 for 20 to start the game. In under a minute left in the half Toddrick Gotcher made 2 downtown shots, and the big man Norense Odiase hit his first long range shot of the year making the game 31-17. Oklahoma State kept trimming the lead in the 2nd half, but the Red Raiders fought as hard as they tried to maintain control of the scoreboard. OSU came up with a furious comeback, and the lead change went back and forth. In the end Texas Tech would fend off OSU to get the stunning victory on a 3-point shot make by Devaugntah Williams with 10 seconds left on the clock. OSU couldn’t make the last shot of the game.
Team Observations | It was senior day and also the Red Raiders alumni game. Everyone wanted this win, and Texas Tech had been playing well the past few games in the USA. It was time for a Red Raiders victory. What a great way for Luke Adams, Clark Lammert, and Robert Turner to finish their careers at Texas Tech! The program is trending in the right direction, and I’m excited. It would be nice to be a hot team heading into the Big 12 tournament so let’s bring on Baylor to end the regular season… Wreck ’em Tech!
